Pujari a 1981 batch IAS officer of the Gujarat Cadre, will hold additional charge for telecom with immediate effect from March 9. Pujari himself is set to retire in June this year. According to sources, Pujari’s appointment is a stop-gap arrangement until a new telecom secretary is appointed by the government. He takes reins of the department of telecom at a time when the sector is facing intense competitive pressures with the entry of Reliance Jio Infocomm. Former telecom secretary JS Deepak a 1982 batch IAS of UP cadre meanwhile, has been appointed as India’s permanent representative at the WTO in Geneva. Deepak who assumed the post of the telecom secretary last February spent over a little year in the department before he was posted out.
