BSNL to offer 3G services in 760 cities at end of first deployment phase
Indian state-owned telco Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has revealed it aims to provide 3G services in 760 cities in the first phase of its deployment of the technology, Sindh Today reports. Detailing its investment and rollout plans to the Union Parliament, BSNL also noted that it expects to spend INR27 billion (USD570 million) on the first phase of the project, noting that it had already launched commercial 3G services in 111 cities so far. The initial phase of deployment is expected to be complete by 2011. India’s minister of state information technology and communications, Gurudas Kamat, has also announced that the other state-owned telco, Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Ltd (MTNL), is in the process of increasing its capacity for 3G lines in Mumbai and Delhi by around 750,000 in each city.
