The preliminary performance of the Circles for the year 200-09 is that only seven circles reported profit: Kerala (562 Cr & highest), Karnataka (324 cr), Chennai TD (324 cr), J&K(34 cr), Orissa (23 cr), Rajasthan(8.5 cr) and Haryana (29 lakhs). Even in Kerala, there is a dip 138 crores in profit.

Revenue:

Over all revenue from the services has declined by 10% which is a cause for great concern. This year it has come to Rs. 29,000 cr (in 2005-06 it was 36,000 cr) with total income expected to be Rs. 35,000 crores.

Customer base:

The overall customer base of BSNL (Wireless+Wired line) increased from 72.3 million to 81.5 million which comes to about 12.7% growth and this is the ¼th of the industry’s growth of 50%.

GSM growth:

BSNL added 10.5 million connections last year taking the customer base from 36.2 million to 46.7 million with about 29% growth against the backdrop of 50% in the industry from 260 million to 391 million. There was capacity constraints in GSM sector last year. Now except western zone comprising MH, GUJ and MP Circles all other circles having sufficient spare capacity. In March, we could provide 25 lakh connections and the monthly target for next year is 25-30 lakh connections per month. The highest growth rate reported by BH-81%, Kol TD-50%, PB-45%, HP-44%. The lowest is NE-II & J&K with 1.73%, Assam-6.5%.

Landline growth.

BSNL faced a negative growth in land line. ie a reduction of 2.2 million. Our customer base reduced from 31.5 million to 29.3 million showing a negative growth of 7%. UP(W), CHTD and Kol TD arrested the negative growth and all others reported negative growth. Regarding negative growth maximum is in A&N(-20%) followed by Assam (-18%), and Orissa(-16.5%).

WLL connections:

BSNL added just 0.8 million connection last year taking our customer base from 4.6 m to 5.4 m with 18% growth much less than the target of 3 million. Growth is highest in KTK(43%) followed by NE-II(42%) and Kol TD(41%). Lowest growth is in Haryana ((-3.7%) and Punjab(-2.85%).

Broadband:

Country wide growth is 75%. Highest growth is in NE-II(166%), followed by NE-I(144%) and WB(137%). The lowest growth in Kol TD(35%) followed by CHTD(50%) & Jharkahand (50%).
