Sub: Tele-density and Market Share as on 31.05.2009.

During May 2009, 11.52 million telephone connections has been provided in the country taking the total telephone connections in the country 45.29 crores as on 31st May, 2009.

The tele-density & market share of all other telecom operators is enclosed. Ranking in BSNL column has been introduced in Annexure 4, 5 & 6 in addition to showing growth during the month and year.

It is seen that:

(1) BSNL has added 2.50 lakh connections during the month of May 2009 which works out to 2.17% of the total connection added in the country. During 2009-10 (upto May 2009), BSNL has added 10.84 lakh connections which works out to 4.58% of the total connections added in the county.
(2) The position of BSNL in the total telephone connections provided during the month is at 7th. BSNL market share has decreased by 0.48% during the month of May 2009 and by 0.75% during 2009-10 (upto 31.05.2009).
(3) The overall tele-density in the country is 38.88% with Chennai License area topping at 107.35% and Bihar License area lowest at 19.40%.
(4) BSNL now holds 1st position as an overall operator (wireline & wireless) in 7 license areas viz. Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, NE-1&2, Punjab, UP(E) & Kolkata Circles. During May 2009 West Bengal circle has dropped to 4th position as an overall operator (wireline & wireless).
(5) BSNL has No.2 position in total number of mobile connections in 4 License areas viz. Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Orissa and Punjab Circles.
